Molten Cast Iron Cookware
A group project focused on, with collaborators Alivia Jiang and Rylee Whit, re-creating the look and feel of cast iron cookware through 3D printing and spray paint finishing. The design process focused on collaboration, material exploration, and refining visual authenticity.
Our design focused on the essentials—what college students truly need in a compact cookware set. We aimed for a sleek, minimal form that integrates easily into small kitchen spaces, while maintaining the warmth and durability of traditional cast iron.

3D Models
Process
We 3D printed each pot in two halves, then glued and sanded them to remove the printed texture, creating a smooth surface for the black textured coating to adhere to. The 3D models informed how well the pots could nest together and helped us refine the ergonomics of the handle design.
Forged in Fabrication
Each piece was sprayed with a textured black metallic coating, then finished with a glossy layer to achieve the rich, reflective look of cast iron.
Keyshot Render
Through multiple test prints and refinements, our team explored proportions, nesting, and surface texture to achieve a simple, cohesive cookware set. The final design embraces the timeless character of cast iron while remaining accessible and enjoyable for any college student looking for comfort, familiarity, and ease of use in their daily routine.
